With the armies of the north and south lost and Oliver Cromwell's Eastern Association fully engaged the exposed West Country became vulnerable. The Cornish men moved north and overran Bradford on Avon 2 July 1643. The Royalists won the the Battles of Landsdowne 5 July 1643 - Roundway Down 13 July 1643 and the Port and Town of Bristol 26 July 1643. Why did Oliver Cromwell's star begin to shine from the East?
